Kohli Breaks Another Record in ODI

By Sports Editor |

In a stunning display of batting prowess, Virat Kohli has once again etched his name in the record books by becoming the fastest batter to reach 14,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The milestone was achieved during India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group stage match against Pakistan in Dubai, where Kohli led his team to a six-wicket victory with an unbeaten century, his 51st in the format.

Kohli needed just 15 runs to reach the 14,000-run mark at the start of the match. He accomplished this feat in style with a classic cover drive off Haris Rauf in the 12th over, reaching the milestone in just 287 innings. This surpassed the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who took 350 innings to achieve the same feat. Kohli now stands as the third batter to cross 14,000 ODI runs, behind Tendulkar (18,426 runs) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234 runs).

The match itself was a thrilling encounter, with India restricting Pakistan to 241 in 49.4 overs, thanks to stellar bowling performances from Kuldeep Yadav (3/40) and Hardik Pandya (2/31). Chasing 242, India stumbled early, but Kohli's composed century, supported by Shreyas Iyer's 56, ensured a comfortable chase, completed in 42.3 overs. Kohli sealed the victory with a boundary off Khushdil Shah, marking his 82nd international century. Additionally, during Pakistan's innings, Kohli broke another record by surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin to become India's leading outfielder in ODI catches with 158.

Kohli's achievement was lauded by former Indian bowler Anil Kumble, who noted, "The way he constructed that hundred was... we've seen that many, many times in his 51 hundreds in ODI cricket." With this performance, Kohli has further cemented his legacy as one of cricket's all-time greats, with fans and experts alike predicting he could challenge Tendulkar's all-time ODI run record of 18,426.
